Game Drills

To raise the level even higher,
isolation training can be undertaken in conjunction
with normal
unrestricted training. For
example:
The Vision Game
In a normal 7 versus 7
(plus goalkeepers) game, have team "A" (all) have eye patches on
their left eyes, and team "B" (all) have patches on their right eyes,
play a normal game for 5 minutes. At the end of 5 minutes
change, team "A" right eyes, and team "B" left
eyes, continue for a further 5 minutes. Next both
teams remove the
eye patches and play unrestricted for a
further 10 minutes.
This is a simple but
fantastic drill for improving a player’s
vision, and awareness.
The Communication Game
In a normal 7 versus 7
(plus goalkeepers) game, team "A" cannot talk or call for the
ball, only eye contact, team "B" must
shout as
loud as possible for every pass (no shout, a
foul to the opponents), play for 10 minutes,
then change roles.
This is another simple but
highly effective drill, to improve
communication skills, and decision-making.
The Forward Passing Game
In a normal 7 versus 7
(plus goalkeepers) game, team "A" can only play the ball forwards
(a backwards pass is a foul),
whilst team "B"
are free, play for
10 minutes and then
change roles for the next 10 minutes.
The Headers and Shots Game
In a normal game,
team "A" can only score a goal with a header,
team "B" only with left footed
shots, you can
put whatever restrictions you want.
