Team Warm-Up, Pre Training Preparation

This type of warm up or preparation is of a very different nature to the pre match ritual. The coach or coaches must plan this “warm up” in direct relevance to whatever that days session is going to entail.

Here are selections of preparation “warm ups.

Awareness and Disguised Running Preparation

Objective:  To prepare the players to perform physically, and mentally to
their optimum levels.

Set Up:  Set up a grid within a grid, dependant on the physical condition of your players. For example a 10 yard or 10-metre square within a 20 yard or 20-metre square.

Coaching Points:  All of the players within the inner grid "A". In the outer
grid "B" place hurdles, medicine balls, poles, slalom courses or whatever equipment you have at hand.

Phase 1

The players are numbered 1-10 (or however many players you have).
Number 1 passes to number 2, 2 to 3 and so on and the last player back to number 1.
    1. Pass the ball from hand to hand.
    2. Pass the ball from foot to foot on the floor one touch.
    3. Pass the ball one touch, left foot only.
    4. Pass the ball one touch, right foot only.

As soon as the player has passed the ball he must then undertake a task before he can rejoin the inner grid again.

    1. Sprint and touch any pole on the outer pitch.
    2. Sprint and jump over any hurdle on the outer pitch.
    3. Sprint to the outer pitch and with any ball, juggle for
      20 touches, etc.

Phase 2

This time the players are not numbered, the player who calls for the ball, receives the pass and then he must undertake a task before he can rejoin the inner pitch again.

    1. Sprint and touch any 2 different poles on the outer pitch.
    2. Sprint and jump over any hurdle and touch a pole on the outer pitch.
    3. Sprint to the outer pitch and with any ball, juggle for 20 touches, and then jump over 2 different hurdles etc.

Phase 3

The players are numbered 1-10 (or however many players you have).
Number 1 passes to number 2, 2 to 3 and so on and the last player back to number 1, but this time there are 2 balls going around the pitch, the only rule is that the balls never touch.

    1. Pass the ball from hand to hand.
    2. Pass the ball from foot to foot on the floor one touch.
    3. Pass the ball one touch, left foot only.
    4. Pass the ball one touch, right foot only.

As soon as the player has passed the ball then he must undertake a task before he can rejoin the inner pitch again.

Phase 4

This time the players are not numbered, but this time there are 2 balls going around the pitch, the only rule is that the balls never touch. Sprint and touch any 2 different poles on the outer pitch.

    1. Sprint and jump over any hurdle and touch a pole on the outer pitch.
    2. Sprint to the outer pitch and with any ball, juggle for 20 touches, and then
jump over 2 different hurdles etc.
