Passing and Pattern Runs



Objective:

Quality passing and movement towards and away from the ball. 

Coaching Points:

1.  Players A pass a straight ball to the players B, who passes back to the original player, after B has played the ball he then runs backwards to position C, at the same time player C sprints forwards to position B and receives the next pass. Player A continues passing without waiting for either of the players, he passes to a zone and not a player.

2.  Players A pass a straight ball to the players B, who passes back to the original player, after B has played the ball he turns then sprints forwards to position C, at the same time player C sprints forwards to position B and receives the next pass. Player A continues passing without waiting for either of the players, he passes to a zone and not a player.

3.  Players A pass a straight ball to the players B, who passes back to the original player, after B has played the ball he then runs sideward to the next pole on the left, then sprints backwards to position C, then sprints forwards to position B at the same time player C sprints forwards to position B and receives the next pass. Player A continues passing without waiting for either of the players, he passes to a zone and not a player.

4.  Players A pass a straight ball to the players B, who passes back to the original player, after B has played the ball he then runs sideward to the next pole on the left, then turns and sprints forwards to position C, then sprints forwards to position B at the same time player C sprints forwards to position B and receives the next pass. Player A continues passing without waiting for either of the players, he

This drill can be done in various ways.

a.  Vary the distances between the poles to give an all around passing and sprinting effect.

b.  Work on 1 minute in each position and then change.

c.  Use either one touch passing or if the players conditioning is not up to it the player in position A can decide to have more touches (very good for teaching players decision making).
