Speed and Reaction
Drills
This series of speed,
and reaction drills are used routinely by many top
clubs as part of their pre-game preparation.
With the
players
in two lines,
5 yards apart, and with the coach
determining the distance (from 5 to 15 yards).
1. Both players facing to the front,
on the
coaches command, sprint to
the cone in
front of them,
then slowly jog back to the
end of the line.

2. Both players facing each other.
On the coaches command, sprint to
the cone in
front of them,
then slowly jog back to the
end of the line.

3. Both players back to back.
On the coaches
command, sprint to
the cone in
front of them,
then slowly jog back to the
end of the line.

4. Both players facing away from the
coach turn on the
command and
sprint to
the cone in
front of them,
then
slowly jog back to the
end of the line.

5.
Both players facing to the front,
on the coaches command,
sprint to the diagonal
cone then
slowly
jog back to the end
of the opposite line.

6. Both players face to face, on
command
each player must
sprint to the diagonal
cone then
sprint backwards to the
back
of the
opposite line.

7.
Both players back to back, on
command, shuffle
sprint to
the diagonal cone then sprint forwards
to the opposite line.

8. Both players facing away from the
coach,
on command
sprint backwards to the
diagonal cone and then forwards
to the opposite
line.

On every different sprint, the coach
varies the distance from 5 to 15 yards at their
discretion.
